About
Rwanda's fertile hills surrounding Lake Kivu provide an exceptional environment for coffee cultivation. Grown at elevations between 1,600 and 1,900 metres above sea level, these coffees benefit from rich volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, and a temperate climate that allows cherries to mature slowly and develop remarkable complexity. Like much of Rwanda's coffee sector, production is dominated by smallholder farmers, many tending only a few hundred coffee trees on family-owned plots passed down through generations.
Following harvest, the coffee is fully washed before being gently decaffeinated using the Sugarcane Process, which employs naturally derived ethyl acetate to remove caffeine while preserving the coffee's intrinsic character. The result is a decaffeinated coffee that retains the bright acidity, sweetness, and clarity for which Rwandan coffees are celebrated. Far from being an afterthought, this coffee reflects the dedication of the farming families around Lake Kivu, whose careful cultivation and attention to detail shine through in every cup.
